Timing of new HQ is just not right
ALTHOUGH appreciating the advantages of relocating to the city centre, there are obviously many more disadvantages.
Hanley will prosper without the Civic Centre, while it will deter investment in Stoke, heralding its eventual demise.
Stoke needs more investment, not less and removing important buildings sends out the wrong message to investors. The council has a responsibility to all, not just the people of Hanley.
The timing is patently wrong, with the council in considerable debt and closing care homes, support centres and swimming baths.

The timing is certainly wrong if we are having to lay off the poor staff at the bottom. Although we do seem able to pay exorbitant salaries/expenses/pensions to the pyramid at the top and their many assistants and consultants.
The existing offices are not old, or in need of repair, and were designed and built for the purpose and are not saleable for anywhere near the replacement cost.
Having been in business all my life I am confident anyone having to run a business would not consider spending so much while doing so badly.

“Why would businesses want to locate themselves in one particular place just because the Council have their offices there? The whole idea is just nonsense, dreamed up by Pervez as justification for him wanting to build a monument to himself.”
