Thousands to join gay pride celebrations this weekend
THOUSANDS of people are expected to visit the city this weekend for the county's biggest gay pride event.
Stoke Pride takes place on Saturday and organisers are expecting people from around the country to visit the event at its new base in Northwood Park.
-

After beginning in a car park four years ago, the event has grown into one of the city's biggest community festivals.
From 2pm visitors will be able to see street performers, dancers and artists.
The event will also feature two stages, food, drink, and face-painting for youngsters.
And there will be plenty of time to mingle with the crowds before the event moves to the official Stoke Pride After Party at The Club, in Hanley, at 9pm.
Entertainment will include musicians, drag artists, belly dancers and DJs.
Entry is free and all are welcome to go along and meet people from Staffordshire's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.
One of the event organisers Aaron Cogle said: "It is the most successful pride of its type in the region.
"The recognition and economic benefit it brings to Stoke every year has other cities of comparable size green with envy."
LGBT Network co-ordinator Andy Murphy said: "It is a fantastic party and an important part of the continuing struggle for LGBT equality."

“'anthony from mount pleasant' insinuates that gays having a Gay Pride event is 'ramming it down peoples throats'. His comment makes about as much sense as accusing a country fayre of ramming farming down peoples throats or criticising a church fete as ramming religion down peoples throats! If he's to write such comments again that threaten to upset so many people, I suggest he cites a less bogus reason for his vitriol.”
