Police cordoned off the scene outside the High Street pub – which had already closed for the night – following the fight at 1.30am.

A man in his 20s, who has not been named, was later arrested on suspicion of assault and was being questioned by police last night.

Royal Oak owner Wayne Clowes, of Cheadle, today told of his shock as the boy's head smashed through the window.

The 37-year-old, who took over the business in June with partner Mandy, said: "We had closed for the night and people had left the pub when this incident happened outside.

"The lad was just sitting there waiting for his friends when he was pushed through the window.

"There was a mass of people outside and everybody who had been in the pub went to see what was happening.

"People were scrapping on both sides of the street.

"We called the police and then an ambulance when we saw the state he was in.

"There was blood everywhere and he had cuts to the front and back of his head.

"My partner ran to get a tea towel to try to stop the blood and we got the first aid kit."

Wayne added: "This incident has nothing to do with the pub and we were closed at the time.

"It was me and my staff who went out to try to calm things down.

"It was just unfortunate that it happened outside our pub."

Police had removed the cordon by yesterday lunchtime.

They are now appealing for witnesses to try to identify the people involved in the brawl.

It is understood the victim has now been released from hospital after being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Police attended High Street, in Cheadle, where a teenager had received non-life threatening injuries.

"The teenager who was sat on the windowsill of the pub received a punch to the head and went through the window.

"A fight broke out as around 30 people got involved.

"One man was arrested for assault. We would like anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward."

Anyone who saw the brawl should call Staffordshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
