Theatre Review: Pasión de Buena Vista, The Regent Theatre, Hanley
Pasión de Buena Vista The Regent Theatre, Hanley
IF THERE'S one thing guaranteed to melt your winter blues it's a little bit of passion – the Pasión de Buena Vista to be exact.

SEXY: Pasión de Buena Vista.
The much-talked about Cuban show arrived at The Regent Theatre on Wednesday dispelling all thoughts of the miserable winter weather.
Vibrant rhythms and sexy music lay at its heart, and while the first half lacked the energy and commitment needed to draw the audience in, the second made huge steps to offer something a little brighter.
Advertised as featuring some of the best dancers and singers in Cuba (including several from the famous Club Tropicana in Havana), the show is supposed to take you on a tour through the unspoilt streets of Cuba. The less than polished host made this journey a little difficult to comprehend, but if the Pasión should be praised for something, it's the authentic sounds coming from the live eight-piece band.
In fact, having worked together for many years, it was the musicians who really carried the show with the trombonist/singer in particular causing quite a stir in the second half.
The production also benefits from an illustrious wardrobe boasting an array of flamboyant dresses and suits in a multitude of colours, while the simplistic set worked well to set the scene.
Lady Salsa this wasn't, but if you're after a little glimpse of idyllic Caribbean life then the Pasión de Buena Vista is worth a look.
