A SUPERMARKET has quashed rumours that pop group One Direction will attend its official opening.

Civic dignitaries are expected at the opening of the new Tesco Extra store in Vernon Way, Crewe, on Monday.

But store manager Natalie Salt has had to deny that the British-Irish boy band will also be in attendance.

She said: "We have heard reports there is a rumour circulating that One Direction are attending the opening of our new store.

"We do not understand how these have been created, but I would like to confirm there is no truth in these rumours. I also would like to apologise for any confusion that has been caused as a result."

Crewe and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson, and Mayor of Crewe Roy Cartlidge, will open the store.

Tesco will also donate £1,000 to Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics Club.
