GROWTH PLANS: Pupils planted seeds at Tesco's new Extra store in Hanley.
Youngsters helped Tesco staff dig up a plot of disused land and prepare it for planting vegetables and plants for a springtime display.
Moyra said: "It was a pleasure to help St Maria Goretti Primary School. My staff and I are committed to helping good causes and it is great that something fun can also be educational.
She added: "Next year, we plan to come back and visit the school and talk to the children about fresh produce and see how well all the plants and vegetables have grown."
Executive headteacher Margaret Yates said: "I would like to thank Tesco for their kind donation of the plants and seeds.
"The garden has been overgrown for some time and with Tesco's help it is great that we can finally begin to get it back up and running and transform the area, which will be suitable and safe for our children to enjoy."
The new store on Clough Street will open on Monday, November 15. The current store on Newhall Lane will close on Sunday, November 14.
