Teachers from Stoke-on-Trent go on strike over working conditions
TEACHERS were due to walk out on strike today in a dispute over working conditions.
The action involves staff from the city's special educational needs and disability service, who work with youngsters who have sight or hearing problems.
They will be manning a picket line outside the Mount Education Support Centre, in Penkhull, in protest at a new performance management policy adopted by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT teaching union, said: "The policy is punitive rather than supportive, creates a considerable additional unnecessary workload and undermines the very professionalism of these excellent teachers."
