IT'S EXCESSIVE: I refer to the Government's latest so-called road safety idea, of two excessive speed tickets and you're banned, regardless of the time of day, or the location of the offence. Don't misunderstand me, I do not condone any type of dangerous driving, but there's a world of difference between the selfish idiots who race through built-up areas at any time of day or night, and the driver who is travelling on an almost empty motorway in the middle of the night. I envisage thousands of motorists appearing in the courts, and lawyers rubbing their greedy hands together.

In my opinion the greatest menace on our roads today is the growing number of unlicensed, uninsured drivers. It's incredible that more than 1.5 million unlicensed vehicles are driving on our roads.

The DVLC and police forces are equipped with sophisticated equipment such as automatic number plate recognition cameras. They should make this problem a top priority and rid us of this danger.

These illegal road users are much more likely to ignore all the laws concerning road safety. Who needs an MOT or regular servicing when their vehicle is untaxed and uninsured?
