Derren Brown: How To Be A Psychic Spy C4, 9pm

THE American and Russian governments spent millions of dollars in the 1960s on research into the principle of remote viewing – the ability to see and describe an object that is hidden from view. Like Prime Minister Gordon Brown after the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

In the third of his Events, Derren Brown, he of the magic beard, right, puts this theory to the test on a grand scale as he performs an ambitious nationwide experiment with viewers able to text in their results or submit them to the Channel 4 website.

"Along the way I'll be investigating something called remote viewing," he says, "which is the ability of a psychic spy to see through the eyes of another human being."

If you do manage to see through the eyes of someone else during the evening, then either send the results in or go and lie down – you've been drinking too much.

Derren will also attempt to project a single image into all of our minds.

In my case, as is usual when Derren's on, it will be the image of my bed.

At the end of the show, the image will be revealed, to see how it compares with the one produced by viewers and to find out whether even the master of the impossible can make the country visualise something they couldn't have seen.

You too can be like Derren, by buying a Your First Magic Set from the Early Learning Centre.
