Comedy Exchange Dave, 10pm

PUTTING aside repeats of Mock The Week for one night, Dave comes up with some original programming in the form of Comedy Exchange, a one-off special that sees British stand-up and broadcaster Phill Jupitus swap places with American Flight Of The Conchords star and comedian Eugene Mirman for a cultural experiment.

Despite speaking the same language, there's still many a difference between Great Britain and the U.S.

Not least in comedy. When was the last time you laughed at a gag about Mickey Mantle (an American baseball legend)? Conversely, your typical American would probably stand in silence when presented with a quip about the WI.

Thus it is that Phill spends a week in New York to find out if his act can cut the mustard, while Eugene travels to our London to do the same.

At the end of the week, they are tasked with presenting their new stand-up routines to their new crowds.

It's a daunting proposition and Jupitus, who hadn't done stand-up for eight years, admits it took him a while to get back in the swing of things. Thankfully, though, the Americans were nothing if not patient.

"In the US, the audience gives you a chance," he says. "They don't like heckling unless you are awful."

It's then that they start producing firearms.
