Swimmers take plunge for cancer charity
SPLASH FOR CASH: People are dusting off their goggles and taking the plunge for charity.
Newcastle Borough Council has again signed up to the world's largest swimming fund-raising event. Swimathon 2009 is being held in more than 500 pools across the UK. It started on Thursday and ends tomorrow. All funds raised will benefit Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
Challenges include solo and team swims covering between 60 and 200 lengths and corporate contests.
Sessions take place at Kidsgrove Sports Centre today from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and Jubilee Pool, Newcastle, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
A further session takes place at Chesterton Community Sports Centre tomorrow from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
