A BOY needed hospital treatment after he was attacked while swimming.

The incident happened at the Jubilee Swimming Pool in Newcastle.

The 11-year-old victim was swimming when he was approached by another boy, thought to be aged about 13, and a row broke out.

The older boy then punched the 11-year-old, leaving him with a cut to his eye.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 2.20pm on Saturday.

The offender is described as white, about 4ft 10in, of medium build, with short brown hair.

On leaving the baths, he wore a blue and grey striped top and had an orange carrier bag.

A spokesman for Newcastle Borough Council, which runs the pool, said: "The incident is in the hands of the police."

Anyone with information should call PC Tom Davies on 0300 123 44 55.

“I would agree with magneto had these boys been the same age. this younger lad has been bullied so his attacker should be punished”

“Magneto, an offence has taken place, end of. If this was adults would you have the same view? Idiot.”

“I know this won't be popular with the injured lad or his parents but does it really warrant a Police investigation? Scuffles and fights with other kids surely form part of the growing up process, it certainly did when I was a kid. And one day, NOT wrapping them in cotton wool will save their life.”
