MOSQUE: I support Jennifer Holdcroft's protest (The Sentinel, October 20).

A passer-by said she stood out like a sore thumb, but it is the mosque, in Regent Road, Shelton, that stands out like a sore thumb. It looks shockingly and horribly out of place.

What a disgrace Stoke-on-Trent City Council takes off us for parking etc, but gives our land away for a mosque.

“In reply to Fun-do-mentalist, The Koran, like the Bible , has been interpreted by man and that particular interpretation has been preached by a man . Islam, I believe, is no more intolerant than any other belief,it is individual believers who may be intolerant .”

“Thanks Leanne and please don't think I am trying to be insulting - You sound lovely! It would be a shame though wouldn't it if you really deeply loved a muslim man and were prevented from doing just what nature intended, getting married and having children. To me there is no reason why any two people on the planet should not be able to do this. To me my views are the exact opposite of a racist. I don't know how old you are, but do you remember a record by Blue Mink called, 'Melting Pot'. It's a song with a very good sentiment. The problem is I fear that a lot of religious people, and Muslims in particular, would totally disgree with it and that's not a very good way to run this country or the world. Shame.”

“Fundamentalist, thank you for your interest in my life and relationships. As I said, I am a Christian and that is the most important thing to me,so I would not convert to Islam and would not marry a Muslim if that was required. However,if I did,I would not "be in for a shock" because I'm well aware that Muslims do not believe Jesus is the Son of God. This is because they are not Christians. None of that is the point though. I do not believe what they believe, but I don't stand in the way of their practising their own beliefs. In this country I am allowed freedom of religion and I don't begrudge it to others. If we start begrudging it to others,we are no better than the countries that sadly do not allow Christians to practise in their borders.”

“As for a mad psychopath allowing churches to be built, I presume that this was in between him opressing torturing and murdering men women and children. I get the feeling though, in fact I know that it's not quite so good in Iraq for Christians now. Only in July this year five churches were bombed in Baghdad.”

“So madam you would have no problem converting to Islam to marry the Muslim man you fell in love with would you, because that is the only way you would be able to do it. If you did then you would be in for a shock. Muslims do not believe that Jesus was even the son of God at all. One of the reasons I was given by a Muslim, 'scholar' that preaches to tens of thousands of Muslims all over the world was this. Jesus ate food. After he ate food the food went through his digestive system and came out in the normal way that used-up food does. God, or the son of God could not possibly be so if he had to go to the toilet. What do you think about that kind of thinking? In case you missed the point, and most Christians do because of the way their beliefs have been formed culturally, Muslims are honour-bound to believe that the Koran is the final and unalterable word of Allah. That is why culturally it is dangerous. It allows people to be misled by chauvinistic women-hating men. If all muslim women had the same rights, education and natural freedoms that most western women take for granted then Islam would collapse overnight. These mad-mullahs know that without the shameful subjugation of women the game would be up. Anyway I can prove that there can not possibly be only one heaven, there must be at least two.

My mum died and she is there now. I know she won't accept that she is heaven. Why, because her dog Toby is not with her. When her dog dies and goes to heaven she will then think that she is in heaven. However Muslims believe that dogs are impure and unclean so dogs could never be in heaven could they? Therefore there must be a least two heavens mustn't there? Simple!”

“Oh please. "Fundamentalist" that is what you are and it is fundamentalists of every religion and race that cause the problems.
I can add Morocco to the growing list of Muslim countries that allow Christians and other religions to practice. And as for that nonsense about the Koran - take a look at the Bible sometime - Jesus: "I did not come to bring peace, but a sword" Paul instructing women to cover their heads at all times and not speak in church. I am a Christian but I do not follow these rules. Yes, I openly admit that I "pick and choose" what scriptures I follow based on historical context, translations, etc. That kind of intelligent, thinking faith is what stops me being fundamentalist. If that means i am not a Christian in your eyes,I really don't care. Fundamentalists of all persuasions are hypocrites - no-one follows every instruction in any religious book exactly.”

“People that do not believe that every word in the Koran is the final and unalterable word of god but say they are muslims are not really muslims at all are they? They are just people who will justify their culture using parts of the Koran, just like christians using the bible. In other words they pick and choose their scripture. Anyone who believes in and lives by every word of the Koran are enemies of this country and belong in the desert about thirteen hundred years ago. What gets me though is I see such people all the time at the hospital taking advantage of all this vile and corrupt western medicine, something that no muslim country has ever or will ever get close to making themselves. Why, because of stone-age religious dogma, enslavement of women and tribal allegiances. Those that think the west is so bad and against their beliefs should not be here in the first place ¿ should they?”

“The gentleman who went to Libya, I¿m sorry, must have had his eyes shut. Simply look up the verified reports of the torture of christians by the Libyan security services on people for daring to convert to chistianity from islam. Just think if that sort of thing was done in this country.

Would anyone here like to comment on something I saw recently out of my living room window. A young, 'muslim' girl no older than seven at the most was walking down my street. I saw that she looked very concerned. She was wearing a full headscarf. She stopped then pulled the headscarf tightly around her face. She then looked much happier as she skipped across the street into her own house. This young girl was obviously concerned that she would be reprimanded for not wearing the headscarf, 'properly'. Has anyone got the nerve to tell me that a six or seven year old girl should be subject to this sort of control? If you do then I'm sorry it is you that doesn't belong in this city. The fact is that islam would collapse world-wide overnight if it were not for the shameful subjugation of women. If you don't believe me then read the any of the scriptures of the desert dogmas. The problem is not the wording of any of these scriptures, it is that some religions are honour-bound to believe that their dogma is the final and unalterable word of god. Until that is tackled islam will be a problem in Egypt, the West Bank, Pakistan and the Potteries.”

“Guy Brookes-Smyth, the same can be said for Egypt, The West Bank, and Pakistan. These people that go on like this think the entire Islamic world is like the Taliban, Iran, and Saudi. It isn't.”
