Students soak up carnival atmosphere
COLLEGE CARNIVAL: Special educational needs pupils from five colleges got the chance to try activities and food from across the globe at an equality and diversity event yesterday.
More than 200 students arrived at Newcastle-under-Lyme College and spent the day making carnival headdresses, practising their African drumming and trying their hand at henna tattoo painting.
Lucy Mountford, marketing and PR co-ordinator, said: "There was good buzz and some good weather.
"I think the students enjoyed meeting people from other colleges and the carnival atmosphere."
The college students were joined by young people from four other colleges around the country including Dresden's Strathmore College.
The event was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Anne Heames.
