Newly-appointed town centre manager Matt Taylor said: "This is an exciting new venture to engage students better with the university town.

"It is a varied night out which offers some great deals on food, drinks, and free live music, which we believe will grow and grow.

"Hopefully eventually we will create an all-day Thursday event which promotes services across the daytime and night-time economy to students at both local universities."

Ben Harvey, manager of Yates's and chairman of the town's Pubwatch group, said: "We want to bring the students into the local community and to enrich their experience of being at university.

"We think that Newcastle has a lot to offer and this initiative is aimed at getting some of the town's venues to put on a weekly event to create a diverse and safe night out for students."

Buses will leave the Keele campus at 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm, 9.30pm, 10pm and return from the bus station at 1.30am, 2am and 2.30am.

A fixed-price taxi service has also been arranged with Sid's. Students will pay an agreed price of £4.50 before midnight and £6 after.
