Streets cordoned off as major blaze rages at Etruria factory site
EXPLOSIONS rocked part of Stoke-on-Trent this evening as a fierce blaze raged at a former factory site.
Emergency services cordoned off Garner Street, and Etruscan Street, Etruria, to traffic after the fire broke out in warehouses and storage units at the former Twyfords site.

Eye-witnesses reported charred and flaming debris flying through the air which blew across the carriageway as far as the Festival Park complex.
At least 10 fire appliances are currently at the scene of the blaze which is believed to have started around 4.30pm.

Trailers, a fork lift truck and offices were destroyed and fire crews used water from the nearby canal to help fight the blaze which will burn all night.
It is not yet known what caused the fire and investigations will commence in the morning.

“My son in law is of the lorry drivers, they have lost everything!! The building was not derelict or run down, it was in fact very well used. This fire is going to affect alot of people at what is already a difficult time of year!”

“Sorry but the building has a lot of thriving businesses in it and they have all been affected. It was being refurbished from the inside out and was not an eyesore, it was a landmark building from the 1950's. My offices were in there along with a great business community, I hope it survives and I feel sorry for the owners, who have put a lot of work into it.”
