A CURRY house boss has made a last-ditch bid to save his restaurant's new facade.

A planning inspector upheld a Staffordshire Moorlands District Council decision demanding the removal of the front of Cafe Rumi, High Street, Cheadle, in October.

The work, completed by an award-winning stone mason, has been deemed to be out of keeping with the town.

Owner Zia Karim has now applied to retain the current front – and has the backing of Cheadle Town Council.

Councillor Ron Locker said: "We know he should have followed rules, but this looks better than some of the monstrosities in High Street."
