One-Stop Shops at risk of closure
CLOSURE THREAT: While listening to Cheshire East Council's budgetary consultation meeting last week, it became apparent a proposal is being considered to close the One-Stop Shops in Alsager, Holmes Chapel and Middlewich.
The services provided by these information centres would be transferred to the corresponding libraries. The council is considering this change, it seems, to cut costs while maintaining the same level of provision.
This suggested alteration raises several questions. With no increase in library staff, their workload will increase. What extra training is to be provided for this responsibility?
Though the libraries have more extended and variable opening times, not everyone is used to visiting their library. Also, what about moving some of the services to local post offices?
