AHOY THERE: Pugwash, Blackbeard and Long John Silver have been spotted visiting Stoke-on-Trent's libraries.

A series of free pirate story times have been held throughout the city this week. And another two sessions are planned for Monday.

Longton library was the first to welcome its patch-eyed guests with a pirate story session on Monday.

Yesterday, pirates paid a trip to City Central and Trentham libraries. And this morning they were at Fenton library.

On Monday there will be a story time at Meir library at 10.15am and then at Tunstall library at 1.30pm.

All the children taking part will receive a free Pirates Ahoy book, bookmark and sticker to celebrate Bookstart day.

Councillor Hazel Lyth, portfolio holder for enterprise and culture, said: "Using themes like pirates is a great way of encouraging young people to take up reading."
