STOKE City captain Ryan Shawcross has been called up for England.
The defender was named in Roy Hodgson’s squad, ahead of World Cup Qualifying games against San Marino and Poland.

Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross has been called up to the England squad.
But despite the call up for Shawcross, his Stoke team-mate Peter Crouch was once again overlooked.
Crouch, who has scored five goals for the Potters already this season, was overlooked in favour of Tottenham Hotspur’s Jermain Defoe, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck and Andy Carroll, who is currently on loan from Liverpool to West Ham United.

“Just watching Sky Sports and the new St George's football centre in Burton, wow what a place! At least Ryan won't have far to go to training for England every time he gets picked!”

“CptFurious, unfortunately in a court of law you would be held in contempt for perjury for giving testimony from one person and saying someone else said. I never uttered such words and you really make yourself look foolish, not to mention being a complete liar. So as to redeem yoruself and let you make an apology to me I will myself, cut and paste the original comment you associate with me

"I feel cptfurious that he is looking to build a team for the finals not the qualifying, hence picking carroll who has hardly played above Crouchy as he will be 35 by then. All well and good as long as we qualify!
The average age of his selections would confirm this."
Hope that helps”

“Those reasoning that Crouch is too old for the squad (PeterPotter/soccerfoot);
Can anyone else remember Andrea Pirlo tearing us apart at the Euros? A player who is 2 years older than Crouch? Steven Gerrard was possibly our best player that tournament, he is 1 year older than crouch.
An international squad should be selected on merit and merit alone, there is no point trying to look forward in the same way you would with a club team as international compitetions are fractured in nature and every game is merely a snap shot in time. And currently, in this particular snap shot in time, Crouch is the best English forward we have.
(And according to the stats in my previous post, the best we've had in the past 30 years)”
