Stoke City manager Tony Pulis speaks of Olympic Torch honour
STOKE CITY manager Tony Pulis has described carrying the Olympic Torch through Stoke-on-Trent as a “great honour”.
Pulis carried the torch from the Potteries Museum in Hanley, where it began the thirteenth day of its relay route.
Crowds had gathered early despite the morning drizzle and by 6.30am lines of people were in place on either side of Bethesda Street to cheer him on when he emerged from the museum just before 7am.
“It’s fantastic to see everybody out really early,” he said, speaking after the run.

“To get all the support we have just shows how big the Olympics are.
“I’m really, really proud.
“It’s a great honour for me to carry the torch through Stoke-on-Trent and a great honour for Stoke City.”
Pulis also paid tribute to the organisers of the torch relay.
“I just think for everybody up and down the country, it’s making them part of what is one of the greatest sporting events in the world and that is brilliant,” he said.
After running his stretch of the relay route the Welsh-born manager returned to the Potteries Museum, where fans gathered round for photographs and signatures.
The torch, which had also been met with a choir of school pupils and two Saxon warriors, continued on from the museum where Pulis handed it across, and torch bearers continued running with the flame through Cobridge, Burlsem and Middleport.
The relay then moved onto Crewe and Congleton, where rain failed to dampen the spirits of those who came out to greet it.
The torch will end the thirteenth day of its journey in Bolton this evening.
