Stoke City: Tony Pulis monitors Wolves winger Matt Jarvis
STOKE boss Tony Pulis is keeping a close eye on the mounting interest in Wolves winger Matt Jarvis before deciding whether to make a move himself.
Pulis, a long-time admirer, has been monitoring developments which have reportedly seen West Ham fail with a £4m offer.

Southampton have also been linked with Jarvis as top-flight clubs manoeuvre for position on the 26-year-old.
Wolves are thought to be hoping for a fee of around £8m for a player who still has three years left on his contract.

But Jarvis could become an unsettled figure if forced to hack it in the Championship at this stage of his career.
Stoke could also chip away at such a high asking price by offering a player in part exchange.
Wolves are known to be in the market for at least one new centre-half as new boss Stale Solbakken re-shapes the relegated squad he acquired a fortnight ago.
That could leave the door open for Pulis to offer Danny Collins or Danny Higginbotham following their failure to break back into his first-team plans last season.
Collins spent time at Ipswich and West Ham last season, while Higginbotham was at Nottingham Forest for three months, so a lengthy loan spell for either is another option.
Pulis is remaining tight-lipped on his transfer policy, but has already revealed there was a long-distance interest in Jarvis when he signed for Wolves from Gillingham five years ago.
"We inquired about Jarvis," Pulis revealed in April, "but unfortunately the deal had already been done. He's a very good player."
Jarvis, a right footer who tends to play on the left, is most recently remembered by Stoke fans for his fleet-footed wing play against Jonathan Woodgate at Molinuex last December.
His work-rate in both directions and his roving eye for goal – he ended last season with five in eight games – have further endeared him to the Stoke boss.
There was some concern that he had started to lose his way after winning his only England cap in a friendly against Ghana 15 months ago.
But his consistency in the latter third of last season, particularly in a team heading towards relegation, didn't go unnoticed.

“Come on folks. Don't confuse the Sentinel's use of the word 'monitoring' as being synonymous with the phrase ' doing nothing at all'. TP has been a long term admirer of Jarvis and will get him if he can. Also, TP might very well identify his preferred targets but it is the money men at Stoke who do the actual negotiating. The manager only becomes involved towards the end of the process if it looks like a deal is possible. Don't lay the blame for everything at TP's feet. Most of it - yes, but not everything!”

“its about time tp did something positive and get this player signed and not just monitoring him that would have the backing of 99% of stoke harden fans who think he could be a good signing but he would also have to do the unthinkable and play him in the starting line ups”

“Of course it's semantics. You can interpret any article two ways, maybe three; as shown by the fact that we all disagree on here all the time!”

“Pulis must go to the "Player Supermarket" several of the players spoken of are in decline or on the verge of, they will never improve, silk purse and sows ear comes to mind.”

“semantics flint, semantics .
If Jarvis is signed as cover, he will be just like Jerome, never give the opportunity to show what he can do as long as Etherington is still around............ just like Jerome as long as Walters is around”

“Jarvis shouldnt be sign as cover, he should be signed as a first teamer. I know Etherington was good for us the seasons before last, but now he needs the competition to improve. Jarvis, on the other hand, has shown himself to be playing well even in a struggling team.”

“Come on Pulis...Just do it for once!! If we get Jarvis (whom Pulis has admired for some time..just like he admired Jerome) and look what TP has done to him!!
I think any player we target would be very wary of signing for us, as I'm sure the word is "out" that to join Stoke is probably a bad career move!”

“There was an article saying that if the opportunity arose earlier in the summer to sign a player they would and that it wasn't a deliberate ploy to wait until late in the window the sign players. They didn't necessarily say they would be signing players immediately though - do they ever?! Whether it's now, or August 31st; as long as we get some players in that can hit the ground running, I'll be happy. We could just avoid another Palacios situation this time!”

“I could have sworn a major player in the SCFC operation said recently that they intended on bringing in new signings EARLY this off season. So Pulis is "monitoring" this player as other teams put in bids ?? What exactly is he looking for ?
oh yeah, and ditto bexhill”

“What is there to monitor ? We need winger cover, we need competition and we need to improve the quality in the squad. We were led to believe we would be doing business earlier this season ? Get it done and get the supporters back on board TP !!!”
