STOKE City chairman Peter Coates remains fully behind Tony Pulis – and has urged fans to keep faith with the club, both at games and by renewing their season tickets.

Sales have fallen below the levels of the same stage last year when the club went on to sell up to 21,000 season tickets.

Peter Coates wants fans to get behind Tony Pulis.

They haven't been helped by Stoke's run of one win in 10 league games, form which prompted some fans to turn on Stoke manager Pulis after the defeat to West Ham in the club's last home match.

However, Coates's support for Pulis has not been shaken. He said: "Tony has done remarkably well for this football club, but every club in the Premier League has a lean spell at some point.

"I understand we are having a bad time, and if you don't get results and don't play well then managers get criticised, but there has to be some balance.

"We have had a very good period at this club and you have to look at the whole rather than a bad patch.

"I didn't think we played badly at Newcastle at Sunday; we deserved something from that game."

Stoke return to the Britannia Stadium to face West Brom on Saturday, and Coates is hoping fans will show patience with their side.

He is also asking them to show their support by buying season tickets before next Wednesday's Early Bird deadline for the cheapest deals.

He said sales haven't reached last year's levels, adding: "I think we are a bit behind, but every year we are trying to improve.

"We have the best squad since promotion and we want our supporters to stay with us.

"We all want the club to progress, and to do that we need our supporters. They are vital on the day and I would also like to think they will stay as season ticket-holders.

"I am not saying don't moan and groan, and I am not criticising supporters for that. But we need our supporters."

Coates says a typically passionate atmosphere will give Pulis's side the best chance of beating West Brom and taking a huge step towards securing Premier League football for a sixth successive season.

He added: "The West Ham game was one our supporters felt we probably should win.

"They were disappointed, but it is very important they get behind the team for the rest of the season to make sure we are okay."

“I can only imagine that these days, opposing fans like Stoke City because they look forward to us coming to play at their place because it is pretty much guaranteed of them getting the result they want and that when their team goes to the Brit it pretty much guarantees them at least a point too, so who wouldn't like us and patronise us by saying how good we are ?”

“It's true. I can vouch for that as one of the foreigners on this site. The pundits on our channel (who aren't Stoke fans by any means but remain neutral) recognise that there is more than one way of doing things and that Stoke are very good at what they do. Ok, maybe not so good just lately, but overall. One of them voted Walters as the player of the year two years ago, saying he had become a PL player against all the odds, but that he was the kind of player any manager would cherish having in the side.”

“"Stoke is widely respected by football supporters nationally and internationally!!!!!!!!! what planet are you on because your definitely not on this one. The only supporters that respect Stoke City are the supporters who week in week out watch the dross thats served up in the name of soccer by Stoke City and its management team. All the rest of the football supporters nationally and internationally don't just laugh at Stoke and the way they play but openly insult every Stoke supporter along with club at every opportunity that they can get and that's is quite often every week in fact when the team step out and embarrass themselves. And whats more this is going to continue until people start to realize that the past is just that the past never to be seen again. It does not matter anymore what Stoke did at the semi final at Wembley as good as it was its in the past it does not matter that Stoke got to the final or even that we went and played in Europe all those things are in the past. Remember those occasions with pride. but its time to move on and Pulis has shown that he cant he is stuck in a rut a one dimensional manager who is satisfied with the dross that is served up week in week out a manager who is satisfied with a 0-0 draw and the occasional win and while people like some on these pages think that the sun shines from his backside Stoke will continue on the slide down and down and it will not be anyone else's fault when Stoke go down like they will do if this continues than the Chairman, the Manger, and all the Pulis loving fans that think the sun shines out of his backside and can do no wrong.”

“Some people have very selective memories. Richie Barker only lasted about 3 seasons but one of them was some of the best entertainment we have ever seen with Chamberlain, Sammy Mac, Berry and Mickey Thomas. It only went pear shaped after he joined Howard Wilkinsons long ball school. Ball, Kamara, Asprey and God knows how many more of Stoke's managers were diabolical. Brian Little ? for God's sake. Durban got stick for dour football and look where we ended up when he left. Under TP our entertainment was Ricardo Fuller and it's never been the same since his legs (and shoulder) finally gave up. No doubt that this side needs to up the entertainment value but it does not even make the top 10 of Stoke's least entertaining sides and at least it's not being ugly in the third tier. The most self righteous, pompous ass of all time calls someone else a self righteous, pompous ass. Priceless. Off to get my season ticket tomorrow just like I always do regardless of who is manager, chairman or who plays for us. It's what supporters do.”

“We sing a rugby song as a wind up of Arsene Whinger, that seemed to have slipped your bloated mind. All I can say is that with your attitude it is a high blessing indeed that you dont fly over to matches but stay at your 4 inch plasma. Thank God we don't get to hear your voice at the Brit.”
