Steven Nzonzi has been voted by Premier League managers as the fifth best signing of the season and the fifth best young player of the season.

The 24 year-old midfielder, a £3m capture from Blackburn last August, figured prominently in a widespread poll carried out by the League Managers' Association.

  1. Stoke City's Steven Nzonzi signed for the Potters from Blackburn last August.

Nzonzi trailed behind winner Michu and second place Robin van Persie in the poll of the best signing.

And he also came fifth in a poll that declared Liverpool's Raheem Sterling as the best young player of the season.

City boss Tony Pulis, who said earlier this season that Nzonzi is good enough to play in the Champions' League one day, has played the Frenchman in every league and cup game since his debut against Man City on September 15.

His ever-present record was threatened by a red card against Southampton in late December, but that was subsequently rescinded.

And Nzonzi has played Stoke's last two fixtures with a specially-designed nose protector after suffering a broken beak at Fulham on February 23.

The LMA's poll also saw Swansea's Michael Laudrup declared as the best manager so far this season by his Premier League colleagues.

    “does anyone else catch the irony of stripes' comment, right on the heels of the super Peter Coates saying the same thing about our good squad ?? So how come with so much talent being fielded every week for stripes' pleasure, the quality of football has dropped considerably each of the last 3 seasons we have brought in better players ???
    Does one not expect better things from a better squad ?
    Apparently one doesn't !”

    “I have enjoyed every game at the Britania this season roob57 with stoke fielding more talent than I have seen for many years. Your obviously more familiar with watching brazil or Barcelona so it would appear pretty dull stuff to you but I remember some really dire football at the Brit so I am more grateful for all the outstanding efforts put in at my club. Whom I shall carry on supporting even when the quislings on here get us relegated”

    “I can't help but think that several of our signings would be up there if they had been given the chance and coaching etc to prove themselves !After all, they were considered good players before they were signed for a good price yet coincidentally, most of them failed to do anything! I look forward to them and N'Zonzi being managed by someone who knows how to get the best out of them and make them even better players!”

    “Roob57 no it does not make you a top England international but it does make him stokes first international since mark chamberlain. Which is something I, as a stoke fan, am proud of”

    “One of the people who voted for Michael Laudrup was Tony Pulis. The two of them are real friends within the game. Some people could learn from that.”

    “I suppose coming on during a friendly for the last 10 minutes then not making the squad thereafter makes you a top England international Stripes!”

    “Yes Pulis has made a good move in signing Nzonzi (even though I still think given a better formation and style of play he could be even better).
    However, a single swallow does not make a spring, there have also been many a bad transfer dealings recently (or at least the ones that I can remember).
    Wasted transfer fees and wages on players who hardly played;
    Tuncay, Gudjohnson, Palacios, Collins, Arismendi, Woodgate, Upson, Owen, Jerome (hasn't played enough)
    Players brought for well over there respective value;
    Crouch £10, Jones £8m, Palacios £6m, Arismendi £2.6m - £4.8m

    I would also like to add the obvious that Laudrup isn't been praised for making one or two good signings, he is being praised for the way he approaches the game: in a positive, progressive, attacking attitude.”
