THOMAS Sorensen became so frustrated at Stoke's failure to score late on that he romped upfield and joined the attack.

The great Dane loped into the Spurs area in stoppage time and came within a whisker of connecting with a header from a corner.

"With a bit of luck I could have got the header on target," he recalled.

"Niko Kranjcar was marking me, but he just stood and watched when I made a run for the ball.

"I nearly got my head to it, but not quite.

"I've done that a few times in my career, but I still haven't scored."

You could understand his decision to pitch in up front after seeing several chances go begging as 10-man City battled bravely to salvage a point against the odds.

"I thought we created more chances with 10 men than in the first half with 11," Sorensen added.

"You have to stick them away, especially when you're a man down.

"But unfortunately Mama Sidibe slipped and that's the bit of luck you need when you're down to 10 against a team like Tottenham.

"I thought we showed the character that people have seen from us this season.

"A lot of teams would have given in, especially against a good footballing team like Tottenham.

"We got ourselves back into the game at 1-1 and, to be fair, it was a great strike for their second goal.

"We had some great chances at the end and just needed that bit of quality to stick it away.

"Too many times this season we have been down to 10 men and having to hang on and dig it out."

Sorensen admitted he did not have the best view of Mike Dean's controversial decision to show Dean Whitehead a second yellow card for a foul on Luka Modric four minutes into the second half.

Sorensen said: "He was a bit late maybe, but you cannot judge if it was a sending-off.

"But when the referee blows his whistle, there isn't anything you can do about it."
