Stoke City: No go on Martins
by Michael Baggaley
CHAIRMAN Peter Coates has dismissed reports that Stoke are looking to sign Newcastle United's Obafemi Martins.
-

City have been strongly linked with the 24-year-old Nigeria striker, who appears surplus to requirements at St James' Park following Newcastle's relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship.
City manager Tony Pulis needs to bring in a forward to supplement last season's front line, particularly as Mama Sidibe is expected to be out of action until October or November after successful surgery on a ruptured cruciate knee ligament.

“Tim , SCFC - If you keep telling everyone about these weightless rumours you will become a laughing stock and everyone at work will pick on you and you will become a depressed social recluse! ;-) This is exactly what welsh Rob wants!! Dont let this bitter man defeat you, ST, Stoke glad you defended yourself! Well done lad! I dont know what makes people so bitter and twisted ;-)”

“This would be a fantastic signing, pace, power and clinical in front of goal. The wages would be worth in IMO, he is a far bettter player at this moment in time than Owen.”

“still sitting on his hands regarding signings. meanwhile Wolves have just had a snip with Surman one that Stoke were watching but as usual waited too long. Bikey from Reading will probably escape the net as well.”

“Guirane N'Daw has signed a new contract at Nantes Rob?
What is taking ZIGIC so long to sign Rob, not having problems getting a mortgage for his house in Trentham is he?
Who was the third signing Rob, you said was a done deal.
By the way ETO has also signed a new deal at Barcelona and Tevez not put pen to paper yet.
Im telling everyone about these deals that are about to come off Rob. You are letting me down!”

“Here we go again another season of big boot football with no quality coming into the club.
May as well go the Vale.”

“Some of these comments are just depressing. Before the start of the last two seasons I have read constantly negative comments about our chances and the manager in particular - basically you know better! Yet, in these two seasons we have gone from people saying we were League I bound to finishing twelfth in the Prem with memorable victories including Villa, Arsenal, Man City Billionaires, Tottenham and have taken four points off Liverpool. I recognise every one has a right to their own opinion, I just don't understand why it has to be so negative - especially about TP after what he has done. After all, he is a premiership football manager and neither you or I am or are ever likely to be.”

“Hi Rob, any more signings in? Im a bit concerned the two signings havent been announced yet - are we waiting for pre-season? Check my post history - Ive never wound anyone up that hasnt deserved it. By the way, "Dum" has got a B at the end - " Dumb" and "Dumber".”

“the word, yes - I understand 100% what youre saying. Just offering a different view as its probably a dilemma for Tony. Getting in expensive players (who may not have the same ethic and may be more disruptive) or risking being exposed with a similar squad to next season. I was actually impressed with Amdy last season after fearing the worst when we signed him. I cant agree with your sentiments re: Barton. I personally would want to see him banned from every ground in the UK meaning he had no career here anymore. The lad has had countless chances and has proved to be a violent thug and no role model to the kids. I think Femi would be good though.
In short - I share your frustration but Im trying to remain rational and keep the faith as I hope TP knows what he's doing... he's done OK so far eh?”
