STOKE striker Dave Kitson is poised to drop down to the Championship and join Middlesbrough on loan, The Sentinel can confirm.

Negotiations between the two clubs are aimed at Kitson moving north tomorrow.

The 29 year-old striker is likely to remain on loan at The Riverside until January.

Stoke and Middlesbrough will then re-assess the deal with a view to a possible permanent deal.

Middlesborough boss Gordon Strachan is desperate to shake up a team losing its first two games since his arrival as Gareth Southgate's successor.

Kitson, a then club record £5.5m signing in July last year, had briefly resurrected his troubled Stoke career earlier this season.

Three goals in four games appeared to set him up for a concerted and successful run in the first-team.

But the former Reading striker has failed to start any of Stoke's last five Premier League fixtures - and didn't even make the bench when Mama Sidibe returned from injury for the home game with Wolves on October 31.

Kitson left Stoke for old club Reading for a loan spell in the final two-and-a-half months of last season, but returned to the Potteries when the Royals fails to win promotion.

Strachan was recently pictured with a list of supposed transfer targets that included the name of Kitson's Stoke team-mate Andy Griffin.

“Great Kitson scores 2 in 2 games. What happened to him for the 12 months before? Thats my point.
He gets dropped from the bench for Mama? Why? Because Mama has more ability? I doubt it. More like his attitude stinks like it did for all last season where as mamas was 100% professional.
    There is your answer.”

    “Anthony - to answer your comments;
TP signs Kitson and he doesn't score, we know the story about that and Kits family not settling (not TP's fault however he does say he researches his players first).
Kits gets in to the team and scores goals 2 in 2 games and gets dropped in favour of Beatie (difficult to accept if you are Kitson - is Beatie better than Kit's I think so.
Kits gets dropped from the bench for Mama (bad management, no wonder his teddy goes out).
Signing Tunchay was brilliant (you read me wrong), what I don't understand is why not play him or if he doesn't fit why buy him..? I think he is a terrific player who can score goals and is the captain of Turkey but can't get in to TP's team (whats that all about - he should build a team for him to fit).
As for the Spurs result, yes it was 3 great points but we were very lucky, that won't happen often.
My problem is its always the same. Same tactics if we go in front, 1 nil up and backs against the wall (2 if we can score two before TP can change things at half time). Away from home and its backs against the wall and lets hope we can get a dead ball goal (check the stats), same tactics at throw ins, same tactics at corners, same same same.....
As for being a TP basher, I am not but, I am frustrated - .
I think after 40 million we should be and are better than that - we should kill poor teams off (Bolton, Wolves and Hull) but don't because of TP's tactics. TP has to evolve just as the team has to.”

    “Nick

But it seems the majority of Stoke fans want Kitson to play so TP Cant win either way can he.
TP signs Kitson, he doesnt score goals so its TP's fault.
TP gets rid of Kitson and gets slated for not playing him ahead of Mama, TP's fault again. The guy cant win can he.

Tuncay may well fit into the team now Kitson has gone.
Can I ask you Nick if signing Tuncay was bad business can you suggest who realistically we should have signed.
People have got such short memories. Pulis has done far more good for this club than bad. Stop being so negative and get behind the team.
Stoke fans have to be some of the most fickle in the world they really do....”

“just to put a different spin on this for all you pulis bashers out there, Kitsons attitude has not been very good as he is not happy at the club and was left out of the squad against West Ham(?) after an argument with Peter Reid and stormed out of the ground and drove off!! Secondly, if he failed to settle as for north as Stoke then how the hell does he think he will cope at Boro?! I wish him well cause i think hes a decent player technically but he obviouslt doesnt see eye to eye with the mangement set up!!”

“Anthony - you make your own argument, Kitson overpriced is he - bought by TP.
Tunchay, won't fit in to the team, bought by TP too.
As for the poor performances, we were 2 nil up against Wolves until TP got hold of them at half time and went defensive, same applies against Hull.
These were not poor performances but poor mangerial descisions.
I can except this normally but when its predictable I have difficulty accepting it. Will it be different against pompey - can't see it but I hope....”

“Cant see what all the fuss is about personally. Kitson had 3-4 good games for us at the start of the season but his attitude has been pretty poor since he has been at the club. I personally dont want to see the strops and the sulking. I also think we overpaid for Kitson as I dont think he's worth anything near 5.5 million. Notice how he's moving to a Championship club, maybe he's found his level.
As for Tuncay I wondered where he would fit in when he first signed. Those hoping for a 3 pronged attack of BT, Ric and Tuncay can dream on as Pulis simply does not set his teams up that way and never has done.
I know we've had a couple of poor performances the last couple of games but people need to get a grip on reality. We are not Man U or Chelsea and havnt got the quality to play that way so please dont expect us to.”

“Well this looks like the 1st of many capable players that will feel their time is up at Stoke. While we keep players like Diao and Sidibe, we will loose 11.5 million worth of talent in Kitson and Tuncay.”

“Hope he scores a hatfull for 'em and finally gets a coach who gives him some respect - he certainly deserves better from TP whose man-management skills with both DK and Tuncay are David Brent-esque
Sunday's team will show the fans I am sure TP's repect for them - I am sure that 90% plus want more adventure from the team but more than likely we will see another selection that excludes Lawro and more than likely Whelan too.”
