STUDENT Kirsty Shaw is one step closer to stardom after landing a place at a prestigious performing arts school in New York.

The 20-year-old, pictured, who is near the end of a performing arts BTEC national diploma at South Cheshire College, in Crewe, has been offered a place at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), just off Broadway, and will begin her course in October.

Kirsty, of Winterley, near Sandbach, said: "This is a dream come true. It will be a fantastic experience, living and studying in one of the major cities in the world, and brilliant for my future career."

The AMDA receives applications from undergraduates around the world. Graduates have gone on to star in TV shows, including Heroes and Desperate Housewives.

Former Sandbach High School pupil Kirsty will spend two years completing a singing and acting qualification before a year of work experience.

She has won a £4,600 scholarship package, to help cover fees.
