“As a gritter is above 3.5 tons then a driver can drive to a maximum of 56 hours so the booked hours could and should attract serious penalties for both drivers and those allowing the driving of these vehicles”

“Just drove back from Trentham, already the roads are getting bad, no sign of any gritters or snow ploughs.”

“Lets hope the gritting "DECISION MAKERS" at S-O-T City Council do a better job than they did last Sunday/Monday. That way they wont have to lie through their back teeth to their gaffers and the media about the fact that only four wagons were out last Sunday night (not the full compliment of eight) and they were parked at Federation Road at 1.30 am on Monday 21st January (not out all night like their Twitter page claimed).
Considering the shortage of gritting drivers and the amount of gritting the council claim is being done it would be interesting if VOSA were to investigate if there have been any driving or duty hour infringements considering several of the drivers do eight hour shifts during the day as well as gritting.A friend within the authority tells me some of them booked as many as eighty hours work in one week. Is this legal whether they are under EU or GB Regs?”
