Staffordshire firefighters see rise in bonfire and firework call-outs
STAFFORDSHIRE’s firefighters were called out to 24 bonfire and firework related incidents last night, it has been revealed.
The calls come on top of around 20 similar incidents at the weekend, which together makes for a significant increase from the 31 calls received during the entire bonfire period last year.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the majority of calls were to out of control bonfires but despite the increase no major incidents or injuries were reported.
"Several of the bonfire incidents were reported as being out of control however when crews arrived at the scene they found that there were responsible adults with the bonfire so it was deemed safe,” the spokesman said.

"Fire Control have had to deal with a number of calls over the weekend and last night from people complaining about bonfires or fireworks.
“We do always remind people to only contact us in an emergency and to realise that we cannot prevent people from holding bonfires or setting off fireworks, we can only intervene if there is a danger to life.”

“Good god what a load of call outs 24 and they moan, just wish the yellow legs got real,
31 calls received during the entire bonfire period last year. The Ambulance service do that many calls in 30 mins and the police more than likely even more so...dont forget this is the whole of staffordshire not just stoke on trent.. no wonder they are cutting back with the fire service. How many times do you see at least 12 fire personal on a job to get the cat of the roof 2 working and 10 standing with hands in pockets with nothing to do ....”

“The problem with bonfire night is that these days fireworks are going off for weeks on end, so by the the time 5th of November comes you're sick of seeing them. Its like people putting Xmas decorations up in October.”
