STOKE have named Malcolm Vasey as their new team manager.

He replaces John Woolridge, who stood down last month because of ill-health, and will take up his duties with immediate effect.

Eazy Rider Potters promoter Dave Tattum said: "Malcolm has a great knowledge of the sport and the rule book and I am sure his appointment will help us achieve the results we want at this club."

Vasey is a vastly-experienced speedway administrator and has relinquished his links with Scunthorpe Saints to take up the Stoke post.

Vasey said: "When it became clear John was unable to continue as team manager at Stoke, Dave Tattum and I had a number of tentative conversations before the appointment was confirmed.

"It's something I am very keen on and I will meet up with the team next Wednesday, March 10.

"Before then, I will be looking at a few options and plans that I have in mind for the season ahead.

"I want to do whatever I can to ensure Stoke have a successful season."

Vasey has written five books on speedway.

He was initially involved at Mildenhall, where he assisted Dingle Brown, before spending eight seasons as team manager with Boston, prior to joining Scunthorpe.

However, his appointment with Stoke will be his first in the Premier League.

"That is part of the attraction for me and I'm very excited about the new challenge," he said.

"There is little difference in the rules and it's just a case of working with the riders and going to the tracks and getting on with it.

"My background is in the Conference League and National League, but both I and Dave Tattum have faith that this appointment will work."
