STOKE Easy Rider Potters bring the curtain down on their home fixtures with a National Trophy clash against Isle of Wight on Sunday.

The Loomer Road meeting (3pm) is academic, with neither side able to win the competition following defeats by Mildenhall and Buxton respectively last weekend.

However, Potters rider James Cockle, who joined the club mid-season after Simon Lambert departed, says they are determined to put on a show for the fans.

"This is an opportunity for us to send the supporters in to the winter on a positive note and we will definitely expect to do that," he said.

"Simon's were big boots to fill and I have just gone out to do the best I could every time we raced.

"Sometimes it worked better than in other meetings, but the effort was always there.

"I snapped a chain in one race last Saturday and didn't have the best of nights. You could see why Mildenhall are a top side because they had plenty of cover."

The teams have yet to be announced, but Stoke will be without Ashley Birks, who has Premier League commitments with Scunthorpe.

His race partner, Liam Carr, says he has benefited from Birks' knowledge throughout the campaign.

"Ashley has been great with me because he gives me advice on how and where to ride tracks," he explained.

"I have upped my game quite a bit since coming here and Ashley has been a big source of inspiration.

"I'm a bit sorry the season is coming to a close, but I've learned a lot and feel that a full season in the National League next season will be ideal."

Isle of Wight have had a mixed season with their strong home form eluding them on their travels.

"It's not been the easiest of seasons and we have struggled a bit to put a team together for this fixture," said Islanders co-promoter Chris Hunt.

"Unfortunately it looks as though we will be without Paul Starke who will be riding for Newcastle.

"We could do with him here but we wouldn't deny the lad a chance to ride in a major Premier League final."

The Islanders are likely to include Manchester-based Ben Hopwood, the experienced Danny Warwick and Steven Jones in their top five line-up.
