Son hurled bottle in pub
A SON over-reacted when his father became involved in a confrontation in a pub, a court heard.
Andrew Franklin, aged 20, picked up a pool cue in the Canal Tavern, Kidsgrove, at about 10pm on September 20 last year then threw a beer bottle which hit a woman.
The bottle did not smash and the woman was not seriously injured, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard yesterday.
Franklin, of Latebrook Close, Goldenhill, pleaded guilty to affray.
Nicola Bell, defending, said Franklin was a "decent young man" who reacted very badly, and alcohol aggravated the situation.
Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Franklin to eight months in a young offenders' institution, suspended for 12 months, with 160 hours' unpaid work and a four-month electronically monitored curfew from 11pm to 6am. He was also ordered to pay £1,200 costs.
The judge said: "You totally over-reacted to what was going on."

“so get involved in a disturbance in a public house, throw a bottle and after it hits an innocent lady not involved, dont think anymore about it as it was an accident...at least thats the message given out by the judge.
yes judges have limits and distinctions on sentencing imposed upon them but they also have freedom to actualy send young thugs to prison, after all i personaly dont know any other name for someone that hurls a beer bottle during a disturbance in a public house?
nice example set on this case realy isnt it?”

“It gladens my heart to say, Good Call Judge Glenn. An over-reaction from the young man, who seems to have had had to much to drink and wanted to stand by his father, silly mistake, over reacted with actions instead of words to calm the situation, but one that desirvs no more then what he was given. In fact I find the sentance a little hard handed, Judge Glenn, you mean old thing, boooooooo...lol.”
