My Social Network Stalker: True Stories C4, 10pm

RUTH Jeffery and boyfriend Shane Webber appeared a perfectly normal happy couple, talking about marriage and children.

They'd known each other for 10 years, but after they rekindled their schooldays relationship in early adulthood, the man Ruth loved began to secretly rip her life apart.

For three-and-a-half years she was subjected to emotional and mental abuse at the hands of an unknown stalker.

It seemed she was being constantly watched, pushed to the brink of suicide after suffering the indignity of seeing naked images of herself posted on websites and distributed to family, including her parents, and friends.

When the stalker was finally caught, the revelation of his identity would prove as traumatic. Her tormenter was the person Ruth had confided in the most – her boyfriend.

My Social Network Stalker tells the story from Ruth's perspective, from the first abusive messages she received in 2008, which she believed were from former school friends, to the sexually explicit photos and videos Webber circulated on the internet, some of which she's still trying to get taken off, and the extreme distress that prompted her depression, symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder, and eating problems, and how Webber was finally tracked down as the stalker.

The documentary also examines the motivations for Webber's shocking campaign of abuse against his own loving girlfriend – he's shown no remorse since being sentenced to four months in prison.

“I watched this the other night and am disgusted that someone could do that to a loved one, I mean how degrading can you make someone feel regardless to your own insecurities. She is such a nice person that in the documentary she even mentioned "I can see why he might of done this - He felt that I was leaving him - meeting new friends some of them being guys"

However that does not give this piece of "Shi#t the right to go and do that!”

“It's very sad how this type of thing happens in society nowadays. Your dad is the hero here and I strongly feel the police should've carried out a more in depth search in the situation buy looking into all people who had access to the photos not just Lee. Lee should receive an apology from the police and the police need to address the way they handled this case because I am sure this is only the beginning or many. You just need to look on Youtube to see boyfriends recording their girlfriends in a stalking fashion. Just search for "Girlfriend walking home over bridge" on youtube and you will see many videos from benjo816 who records and pervs on women including is own girlfriend. Its very sad but true.”

“Just watched the documentary Ruth, I can not honestly believe that someone could do something so vile and nasty to someone who they apparently love. That is not love it is insanity. And even if you do not love someone it is not acceptable behaviour, I personally would not think to do that to my worst enemy let alone my partner. I am so happy you still carried on with your education at university because being in my first year myself I know how difficult it is to make the transition anyway, let alone when you have all that happening and I would not have been able to cope with it. I hope you never think that you are not as good as people just because he made you feel so low you are a beautiful young women with a bright future ahead. Charma :) he will get what he deserves, to be honest I think he suffers from some sort of mental illness and needs to be clinically assessed. Well done for beating the bully, its hard enough to do never mind when it is someone you love. Good luck for the future, although I don't think you will need it, you deserve happiness now. Take care and remember that there are thousands of people behind you on this. p.s you're family are so lovely, you are very lucky to have them and their support. Shona.”
