THE winter weather has boosted demand for four-wheel drive vehicles with dealers reporting that they are busier than usual selling SUVs.

Demand always rises every winter as drivers seek the protection of the total traction 4x4s but the recent cold snap has seen interest in them rocket.

But by far the most sought after make has been Range Rover with searches for all its models, from the basic one to the Sport and new Evoque up an incredible 282 per cent on last week.

Dave Fox, who runs Dave Fox Cars on the A34 at Meaford as well as at Stone, says the frost and snow has brought more customers calling about 4x4s.

Dave says: "The first snow arrived last Friday and over that weekend we sold a Range Rover, a Honda CR-V and an Audi Q7 and I've got someone looking at a BMW X3. The first drop of snow always helps 4x4 sales.

"I have been driving a BMW X3 and it is a good family car in all weathers but of course, having all-wheel drive really does give you extra grip and that sense of security when the temperature drops below zero.''
