IN LIGHT of the recent controversy regarding the late Jimmy Savile, may I remind TV networks that Sir Jimmy is deceased and any rumours or attacks on his character must be deemed as sacrilege to his name.

Sir Jimmy comes from a different generation and a different culture, devoid of any sex registers, CCTV, or any other intrusions into one's liberty.

  1. ALLEGATIONS: The late entertainer Sir Jimmy Savile, who has been accused of committing a string of sexual offences against teenage girls. Letter writer Alan Dutton says the attacks on his character in the media are 'sacrilege'.

Society today has turned in on itself and created the crimes that it is trying to guard against.

Sir Jimmy Savile was a Christian and a great, clean entertainer and DJ who raised millions for charity and brought pleasure to ordinary people.

“Easily the most ridiculous reader's letter I have ever read (and that's saying something)!!!

Let me guess Mr Dutton - revulsion at sexual abuse is so much nonsense dreamed up by the 'PC brigade'? I'm sure you can figure out what Alan is an anagram of.

I suggest some serious introspection sir!”

“It may be worth saying something about the nature of the damage inflicted by child abuse.
Let's look at the BEST case scenario, where least amount of damage is done:
The abuse teaches the victim a very powerful lesson: Sex is incredibly important, so important that even respectable adults will break all the rules to get it. Therefore sex is related to POWER. In allowing/denying sex people can be manipulated. Sex is a weapon, much more powerful than a tantrum or crying. This is not a lesson any sensible parent would like their child to learn.

In addition, sex is then seen as sleazy and dirty. It belongs to the realm of the forbidden, disgusting things, and yet it has a fascination because of the power it can give over others.

So the victim of an abuser grows up with warped ideas about sex, attitudes that will make future good, healthy and successful relationships with others unlikely. It will take years to get rid of that baggage, some never succeed. That is why some victims later turn to abuse themselves, and why many have a great deal of trouble finding a partner.

In addition, there is the physical injury, sometimes in girls leading to permanent infertility, and all the trauma associated with that.

This is in the briefest possible way spelling out what damage abuse does. So, to excuse it with "different times" is really quite disgusting.”

    “troll news article?

I don't see any justification for his actions, does the author agree that child abuse is fundamentally wrong regardless of whether the social mentally of a cultural trend is more forgiving/ignorant of it?”

“"Different Generation"? "Different Culture"? I cannot remember that it was EVER acceptable in the UK to abuse children. Something is either wrong or it it is not wrong. If it is wrong, it matter nothing when it was done or who by.

"Sacrilege"??? It is not a sacrilege to speak the truth about something or someone, even if he is dead. Being dead does not make you a saint automatically.

It is very common that victims of abusers do not find the courage to speak out until their abuser is dead or somehow lost power over them. So let them speak, at last. Put yourself in their shoes. It is a really hard thing to do.

Let them be a warning to those who behave like that and think they never will be caught. In the end the truth will come out. If they are lucky, they are dead by then, but this is not always so. So, if you have a similar problem and you are reading this, now would be a good time to take action. See a doctor. He can help. There are medications that can stop you harming people.”

“Joking apart, people talk about the 70s and 80s like it was some other time, it was not, the standards we have today were there when I grew up in the 70s, and if found out, this dirty animal would have been treated very much a he would be today if living. Who give a fig about the money raised for chartiy , he also earned millions for himself, and raised a few young girls hospital nightgowns to boot. Anyone proven to have protected this man and known as his actions should be charged forthwith with adding in a crime, harboring a criminal and perverting justice.”
