FIRST responders who help save lives in the area have been given a cash boost.

Shoppers at Uttoxeter Farmers' Market last weekend donated £140 for Dove Valley Community First Responders by tucking into hog roast baps on sale for 50p.

The money was handed over to first responder Cliff Bailey by Mike Lawrence, who helps organise Staffordshire County Council's Shop Uttoxeter events.

Mike, cabinet member for economy, skills and enterprise, said: "Dove Valley First Responders do a fabulous job in helping ensure local people get the best possible access to emergency health support."

Cliff, from Denstone, said: "We'd like to say a special thanks to hog roaster John Lloyd Sutton, and the brilliant burgers of Beaudesert Park Farm."

Since its formation in July 2006, the group has attended more than 1,750 emergency calls and given in excess of 14,500 hours to Staffordshire and West Midlands Ambulance Services.

Mike Lawrence is pictured presenting a cheque to Cliff for £340.
