SHOPLIFTER Jacqueline Wallace, who has 128 previous offences, has been jailed for nine months.

The 36-year-old, of St Anne's Walk, Hanley, stole 14 cans of deodorant from Wilkinsons in Hanley on February 13.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the deodorants, worth £36.12, were stolen to order.

Wallace was caught by security staff after she headed out of the shop.

She told police she had been sent to the shop to steal to order and was going to sell the deodorants.

The offence was committed while Wallace was the subject of a community order for three offences of theft.

She admitted failing to comply with the requirements of the order by failing to report for her probation appointments on January 26 and February 4.

Prosecutor Philip Beardwell said Wallace has committed 128 offences over the past 20 years and many were thefts and shoplifting offences.

Mark Bromley, mitigating, said Wallace has a drink problem.

He said: "She wants help, but there seems to be a mental block with regard to attending alcohol treatment sessions."

Judge Simon Tonking told Wallace she had been given chances by the courts, but has not taken them. He revoked the existing order and jailed Wallace for a total of nine months.

He said: "If I thought there was any prospect of you complying with this order I might be prepared to allow it to continue. I am entirely satisfied that if you were to continue with this order it would not be long before you were back in court. I do not think you are capable of complying with this order."
