Shocked residents saw paramedics try to revive the casualty in the road.
Michelle Lowry, aged 40, of Priory Road, said: "I saw what had happened when I went to pick up from school.
"I saw him lying on the pavement. It wasn't very nice.
"After that I just kept inside out of respect because his family were there."
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "I heard a commotion so I looked outside. I saw him in the road, and could see he'd come off a bike.
"There were lots of police and ambulances about."
It is thought the victim lived in Priory Road, not far from the scene, and could have been riding a mini-moto bike.
Linda Staton, of Priory Road, said: "I had seen him up and down on the bike a lot. It's a real shame."
Police closed part of Priory Road and Holehouse Road until around 5.15pm while they dealt with the incident.
Alan Berks, aged 71, said: "I was out and when I came back the road was blocked.
"I saw the bike in the road and there were about eight police cars and the ambulance.
"I asked someone later what had happened and they told me someone had died. It's very sad."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics had battled to save the man's life.
A spokesman said: "Crews were called to reports of a car and a motorbike that had been in collision.
"The motorcyclist, a man, was found to have suffered significant injuries and was in cardiac arrest.
"Ambulance personnel carried out advanced life support and CPR but unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
"The driver of the car, a woman, was assessed at the scene but was uninjured."
Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "The motorcyclist was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene.
"The woman, also from Stoke-on-Trent, who was driving the car, was checked over by paramedics at the scene but was not injured.
"Both roads were shut while police collision investigators carried out inquiries.
"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact us."
Witnesses to yesterday's collision are asked to call PC Matt Lovatt at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 426 of September 13.

“@ Ducatsti
Could not agree more mate, I have been on 2 wheels since I was 16, (43 years) This is NOT the place for blame, only those involved and the witnesses know what happened, and as there is an investigation under way some respect for the feelings of those involved should be shown,”

“It certainly was not ambulance staff who carried out cpr but a police officer who was off duty, she willlingly went to the scene after hearing a call on the radio. People need to think about their actions thrashing about on a clapped out crosser up and down a residential street has it's consequences. Unfortunatley this has landed on the lads family.”

“What was he riding Ross, as the reports must be wrong. Was he wearing a helmet? If indeed he was required to? Genuine question not trying to be flippant. Condolences to his friends and family - and the lady who driving the car. Terrible tragedy.”

“Martha for your information it wasn't a mini moto. Soo that comment you put is degrading to the lad who was killed your more concerned about puttin your 20p in instead of nearly offering condolences for the tragic accident”
