Service first of its kind at city venue
AN open-air memorial service will take place next month.
It is the first event of its kind staged by Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Bereavement Care Service.
The service, open to all, will be held beneath a marquee, and will involve an hour of thanksgiving and remembrance. A ceramic brass band will also be playing at the event at Carmountside on Sunday, June 21 at 2pm.
Names of loved ones will be read out in the service.
People are also encouraged to bring along a small photograph of their friend or relative to feature on a remembrance board.
Carmountside is the city's largest cemetery and crematorium and has areas including babies' and children's remembrance gardens and a natural woodland park area.
Councillor Joan Bell, portfolio holder for community safety and neighbourhood management, said: "This is a special event for people to come and remember their loved ones. It is something different and hopefully a memorable experience too.
"An open-air setting creates a quiet and serene atmosphere that gives people the freedom to remember their loved ones."
