The 24-year-old former Ajax man is a free agent after tearing up his contract with Real Sociedad in La Liga and has turned up for a trial at the Britannia Stadium so "Stoke boss Tony Pulis can take a look".

The Evening Post say the Swans are closing on the signing of Belgian wideman Roland Lamah but what manager Michael Laudrup really wants, really really wants, is the powerhouse striker from Trinidad and Tobago.

It writes: "Jones is currently enjoying a run in the Stoke side ... but he only got a chance because of an injury to Peter Crouch, and the feeling is that the England man will soon be back in Tony Pulis's team.

"It seems he could now be on his way to Swansea — though Stoke may insist on securing a replacement first."

Laudrup, however, sidestepped questions about Jones as neatly as he could a tackle in his Barcelona pomp.

"There are a lot of names out there right now. When things are done and secured we can talk about them," he shrugged.

"Obviously I know most of the players who are being mentioned, but that doesn't mean we have an interest in them.

"And even if we do, it's a long way from having an interest to actually signing the player."
