SELF-CONFESSED heavy metal fans, Wired, are due to headline their first gig at The Sugarmill in Hanley on Saturday, February 9.

The four-piece rock band, above, are all in their last year of studies at Endon High School, where they formed the band in 2010.

Since they joined forces the boys have played regular gigs around Stoke-on-Trent.

Last year, the group were recognised for their talent when they won Staffordshire Rocks. The band battled it out against seven other acts to win the competition for schools.

Lead vocalist and drummer Tom Flemming, aged 15, says: "Winning the competition was a great experience for all of us.

"It's really helped to raise the profile of the band and we now perform gigs practically every weekend.

"We're all very excited about headlining at The Sugarmill next month."

The band are Tom Flemming, Duncan Hurst, Sam Beswick and Jonny Gosling.

Supporting the boys on the night will be Jesse's Divide, My Vote of Confidence and Black Road Home.

Lead guitarist Duncan Hurst, aged 16, adds: "We are all fans of rock legends such as AC/DC and Black Sabbath and take a lot of our inspiration from them.

"We've been lucky enough to get a lot of support from local venues, including The Underground and The Sugarmill, and we get lots of positive feedback from our audiences.

"The Sugarmill gig will be our biggest so far and we're hoping for a packed out night.

"All of the band are going onto college in September but we're all committed to carrying on the band. We're hoping to do some gigs across the UK in the summer.

"Ultimately our dream is to get spotted and be offered the chance to support one of the big rock acts."

Wired are performing at The Sugarmill, Hanley on Saturday, February 9, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £4 and are available by calling 01159 454593.
