A SCHOOL has re-applied to a student exchange scheme for future grants following the success of a recent swap.

English lessons and a meal out at a country pub were on the curriculum when a party of 15 Italian pupils visited youngsters from Leek High Specialist Technology School

The pupils, from the Itis Euganeo Scientific Technical School in Leek's twin town of Este, stayed at High Ash Farm, in Longnor, and were taken on trips to see the sights of London, Buxton, shopping in Hanley and on a night out bowling at Festival Park.

The visit was part-funded by the British Council's Comenius Project, which promotes European citizenship.

Simon Broad, Leek High's assistant headteacher, said: "The fund has already paid for our students to make the journey to Italy last October and it has allowed them an experience they would not otherwise have had the opportunity of enjoying."
