A PRIMARY school has received a donation of more than £8,000 to invest in a community library.

Carmountside Primary School has been given the Britannia Building Society's grant to improve family learning.

The money has come from the society's charitable foundation.

The school in Woodhead Road, Abbey Hulton, will use the £8,490 received to create the facility. It will also be open to the wider community.

Headteacher Phillip McLauchlan said: "This is an exciting initiative for both the school and our local community.

"We are delighted with the support from Britannia. The new library club and family learning facilities will encourage education and promote an enthusiasm for reading."
