PARENTS at a school have been warned to be extra vigilant for symptoms of swine flu.

Staff at Ellison Primary School, in Wolstanton, told parents that a case of the virus had been confirmed shortly before pupils broke up for half term.

Head teacher Angela Caton said in a letter that the school would re-open as normal next week.

But she asked parents not to send children to school with flu-like symptoms.

She said: "A child at the school has been clinically diagnosed as having swine flu.

"The latest expert scientific advice is that individual school closures to stop the spread of the disease are of limited benefit as swine flu is now circulating more freely in the local community."

She added: "The most important advice is that children who have symptoms of flu-like illness should stay away from school until they have recovered."
