GRAND OPENING: The Grand Sandwich shop on London Road, Oakhill, was officially opened yesterday.

Joy McCann is hoping her new venture will be a success after losing her job at Vodafone, in Chesterton, earlier this year.

The 47-year-old, from Kidsgrove, was forced to convince Stoke-on-Trent City Council to approve the plans, when opponents feared it would create litter, attract anti-social behaviour, and result in cars blocking the bus stop nearby.

Mrs McCann previously told

she believed people had got the wrong idea about her plans, and that her intention was not to open a late-night takeaway.

Instead, The Grand Sandwich will serve hot and cold sandwiches, with the aim of providing a delivery service for nearby businesses.
