SHOPPERS will be able to pick up safety tips from firefighters at a forthcoming event.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has joined forces with the Roebuck Shopping Centre in Newcastle to promote Child Safety Week, which runs from June 22 to 28.

The fire service will be at the shopping centre from 10am to 3pm on Monday, offering advice on safety in the home and on the road.

Carmel Warren, from Newcastle risk reduction team, said: "We will also be giving away free road safety books for children and other goodies."
