SATNAV systems will no longer direct traffic into a rural area of Cheshire.

The A525 links Newcastle and Whitchurch and was listed as a primary route, but it has now been marked as a non-preferred route.

Presently, all traffic is guided on to the road, which passes through villages, including Audlem.

Following a campaign, Cheshire East Council has persuaded the Department of Transport to re-classify the road in an effort to divert traffic away from the area.

Councillor Jamie Macrae said: "I am pleased the road has now been re-classified."
