Rugby union: It's Christmas's day as Sam inspires another Stoke success
STOKE comfortably maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of Midlands Two West (North) by disposing of Bridgnorth 19-0.
Three first-half penalties from Sam Christmas set them on their way to a 9-0 interval lead.
But the concession of 11 penalties in a half-hour spell, thanks to the referee's curious interpretation of the laws, disrupted Stoke's customary procession to the try line.
Their first try soon followed after the break, however, when Christmas dodged through inside the opening five minutes.
Stoke then failed to capitalise on several promising situations as the scoreboard remained strangely inactive by this season's high standards.
Stoke eventually claimed a second try when pressure from their forwards was rewarded with a try for Dave Bennion to complete a comprehensive if unspectacular victory.
TRENTHAM survived the sin-binning of four players in the second half to record a 22-11 home win over Vagabonds in South Lancs/Cheshire Two.
There was no hint of those problems to follow when Trentham opened their scoring in the first minute after fine play by Mitch Hulme paved the way for Aaron Barker's try.
Trentham's second came when their superior pack drove over the Vagabonds try line to give Josh Collins the chance to claim the score.
Rich Urwin kicked the rest of Trentham's points before their third and final try when Roland Osii caught above his head to score following fine approach play from Barker and Tom Turnock.
LINLEY & KIDSGROVE, for whom prop Tom Dodds was man-of-the-match, conceded three tries in the final 20 minutes en route to a 31-0 home defeat to Parkonians in South Lancs/Cheshire Three.
