Rugby: Youngsters impress in Newcastle victory
NEWCASTLE boss Tim Welsh was encouraged by his young team's display as they hammered Bishops Castle and Onny Valley 36-5 in Midlands Three West (North).
Welsh's side were too strong for the visitors, despite putting faith in inexperienced players.
Tom Westwood claimed two tries and Wayne Scott, Kevin Edwards and captain Chris Miller also ran over.
Newcastle were further helped by the reliable Liam Miller, who was metronomic with the boot.
Welsh said: "We played very well. The wind didn't help and there were one or two things we work on in training which we didn't do so well on the day. But overall we were pleased, especially as we had a few youngsters in the side who came good.
"George White had a good game on the wing, as did Tom Westwood, our number 15.
"Dan Jones was outstanding at scrum-half and Wayne Scott in the forwards did very well against a tough bunch of lads."
